Mission Accomplished for Spencer Boyd at Pocono Xfinity Race
Long Pond, PA (June 10, 2017) – In Spencer Boyd’s first Xfinity Series race of 2017, he would bring the No. 07 Grunt Style Camaro home to a 33rd place finish. At this stage of his career, Boyd’s goal is to be a sponge; where gaining knowledge is more important than gaining spots on the track. “I can see why it’s called the tricky triangle,” smirked Boyd. “This was my eighth race on a NASCAR track and Pocono wins for toughest track so far. A lot of guys I raced against today have had the benefit of running ARCA or Trucks before their first Xfinity race here, so my goal was to learn as much as possible. Thankfully Jason Miller and my SS Green Light team brought a race ready car that required only minor adjustments to free up the car throughout the race.” Boyd started the 100 lap event from 37th position after steadily improving his lap times during practice. Through a caution-less Stage One, Boyd would find himself a lap down to the leaders when crew chief called for the wave around instead of pitting. The No. 07 would start the second stage in 30th position with Boyd gaining confidence. The hoped-for caution did not come so Boyd would have to make a green flag stop for Sunoco race fuel and a tire pressure adjustment. With another long green flag run until the end of Stage 2, Boyd would find himself in 34th position. Miller would call for another tire pressure adjustment to start Stage 3. Spencer ran very consistent lap times in the second half of the race before Brandon Jones and his No. 33 brought out the yellow on the front stretch for the 3rd and final caution of the race. Another set of tires, more adjustments, and plenty of laps under his belt resulted in Boyd’s fastest time around the Tricky Triangle at lap 89. As Brad Keselowski would make a last lap pass to end the No. 22’s win less streak, Spencer kept the Grunt Style Chevrolet clean to wind up in 33rd place. “This place is like no other track I’ve raced before,” remarked Boyd. “To put it simply, the tunnel turn (Turn 2) is nuts! I got some great advice from Justin Allgaier and other fellow drivers before the race about the cones in the fence and how hard we could drive the cars. I’m so grateful to Grunt Style for this opportunity to learn and improve every lap.” It is expected that the next race for Spencer and SS Green Light’s No. 07 Grunt Style Chevrolet will be at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The seventeenth race of the NASCAR Xfinity Series season will be Saturday, July 15th for the running of the AutoLotto 200 and can be seen LIVE on NBCSN at 4:00 pm ET. It can also be heard on Performance Racing Network (PRN) and SiriusXM Channel 90.
